Tried wet on wet for the first time – with water colors and the black pentel brushpen. Of course, I had some help from YouTube. And though the results are nice, I have come to the conclusion that this is not my style. It doesn’t come naturally to me and I don’t have half as much as I do drawing my childlike black-sharpie-with-pops-of-color illustrations.
I am also thinking of discontinuing this blog. These days I don’t have much to say and I feel like my art is useless. I have come to the conclusion that it’s a waste of time and monies.
Not sure of either of these conclusions, as yooz.

And by the way, the whole point of something this beautiful not coming naturally to you is for you to learn. There is growth in learning amd when the result is this good, the pain is worth it! Do it for us (layin’ on the cheese).
And anyway one day we do have to collaborate on a picture book.

I’m sorry you’re feeling discouraged but I believe what you’re saying about being fed by the response from social media to be the thing to be discouraged. Your art is wonderful and candid. And I like the trees, too! (I’d love to know what tutorial you used for them!)
I’m reminded of the quote by Anthony Hopkins: “My philosophy is: It’s none of my business what people say of me and think of me. I am what I am and I do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. And it makes life so much easier.”
If you enjoy the exercise of blogging, I hope you’ll continue. If you’re not getting what you want or need from it, well, there ya go! You’ve answered your question.
Ray said:
That’s true – except I am not sure about what I really want from it. I guess I just have to figure it out or see if there’s any other platform that I could use… Let’s see. Thanks for liking the trees. I searched on YouTube with watercolor trees, wet on wet watercolor techniques, diptych trees and watched a bunch of videos

Looks really good for not being your style. Just do things as you feel inspired. Everyone hits blog exhaustion at some point.

Blog exhaustion – love that expression

Well I just think you couldn’t be more wrong! And I haven’t read any other comments yet, so I can say what I want to say. If you bring the kind of joy that you do to so many, you have accomplished a miricle! You make people laugh, a rare gift in this day and age! Your work is wonderful, clever, intriguing, funny! You can’t quit! I love coming here and count so much on my days starting well because of you! And your brains are bigger than my monitor!! I’ve grown accustomed to you! Please stay? Pretty please with colorful illustrations on it? You are very important! Love: D. xOxO

Thanks Rebecca! Coming from you, that’s an incredible compliment!

Aw, you’re too kind, thank you! *blush*. All I know is that I’d have been chuffed to bits if I’d produced this picture! I think it’s stunning. 🙂

I gope you continue this blog. I really enjoy it, but have seen the number of posts diminish, I really look forward to viewing it, when you do post, bit understand your concerns. If you do discontinue, I will miss it.
Ray said:
Hi Alan! So good to hear from you after a while. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when you say you will miss it 🙂 I think I just need to realign my thought process back to the way I had started – with no expectations of kudos

PS Your art has value!

Thank you!

I haven’t seen all of your posts, even though I follow (I miss a lot) but why not just post your art as it speaks for itself, no need for words? Artpress!
Ray said:
I like the words, it’s sort of like a thought diary. It’s the art that’s getting hard to produce rapidly enough to sustain people’s interest 😦

Go with your flow!

Beautiful painting, do what’s best for you Sree, sometimes a change of pace is just what is needed.
Ray said:
My change of pace had affected the blog, but only with regard to views and traffic. So, I need to realign my thought process, really.

I too am sorry to hear you may stop your blog. It’s something I look forward to and inspires me. I think you are truly talented both as an illustrator and as a writer. I know you will never be able to stop making art so why not share it? I wish you well and peace.
Ray said:
I love how you have given me the perfect logic with such simplicity. You’re right, I won’t stop making art or writing, so why not share it? That’s really what it boils down to

It may not be your style of working but it still works well as a painting. As for the blog, keep going as and when. It’s not a waste of time at all!

I am sorry to hear you are feeling blue. I love your art and posts– you are so wonderfully talented. I love your honesty and vulnerability. Just want you to know you and your work are much appreciated. But if you need a break I understand that too.
Ray said:
I don’t. Just feeling a bit demoralized. You know, when I started this blog I had absolutely no expectations of views or likes and stats. But over time I have come to measure the worth of my art through how many likes or views it gets. As I slowed down with the posts, the traffic slowed too. And that made me feel like I suddenly lost my audience. I need to go back to the no expectation phase
